Sophie Gwynn is a multidisciplinary artist living and working in the North East of England, her practice explores the relationship between the self and home. Considering home as an interchangeable physical and internal space. Exploring the sublimity found in the mundane and familiar, a timeless and fragile investigation.

She uses writing with photography to digest immediate juxtapositions, relocating them into their own dialogue with paint, collage, ink and ceramics- creating a complete body of work.

As the 2022/23 recipient of the Edwin John Easydorchik Travelling Scholarship her work with ‘home’ has broadened into a melding understanding of the East and West. Spending 5 weeks exploring Japan meeting and working with masters to develop her own skills; including paper, Kimono, Shoji and Tea masters.

Using her travels, personal experience and relationship with familiar objects she pushes her practice towards the connection of cultures.
